Conductive Level Switch
Product Overview
A Conductive Level Switch is an electronic sensor used to detect the presence or absence of liquids at specific levels in tanks, vessels, or pipelines. It operates by sensing changes in electrical conductivity between electrodes when liquid makes contact. These switches are commonly used for point level detection (high, low, or intermediate) in industrial and commercial applications.

How it works (simple explanation)
A conductive level switch typically has two or more metal probes (electrodes). When the liquid rises and touches the probe:
- The liquid completes an electrical circuit between the probe and a reference (ground or another probe).
- The sensor detects the change in electrical conductivity.
- An output signal (such as relay or digital signal) activates to indicate the presence of liquid.
In simple terms:
- No liquid → open circuit
- Liquid present → circuit completes → output changes
Some designs use multiple probes; others use a single probe with the vessel wall as the reference.
What it measures
- Point liquid level – it detects whether liquid has reached a particular height.
- Presence/absence of conductive fluid at that point.
It does not measure continuous level (i.e., it won’t give a level percentage), only whether a set point is reached or not.
Typical measurable liquids include:
- Water and water-based fluids
- Acidic/alkaline solutions
- Some oils (depending on additive conductivity)
Key advantages
- Simple and reliable – minimal moving parts
- Cost-effective – generally cheaper than ultrasonic or radar sensors
- Fast response – near-instant switching when fluid reaches probe
- Low power consumption
- Suitable for harsh environments – can be made robust for industrial use
- Easy to integrate – with control systems like PLCs or alarms
Applications
- Water & wastewater treatment – pump control, tank level alarms
- Chemical processing – monitoring chemical baths
- HVAC systems – condensate control
- Food & beverage (for conductive liquids)
- Boiler systems – low-water cutoff
- Industrial lubrication systems – reservoir monitoring
- Fuel and oil level control (with appropriate conductivity or calibration)
Installation
- Identify correct set point for high/low level
- Ensure sensor is not in the splash zone to avoid false triggers
- Threaded, flanged, or fixed bracket depending on model
- Vertical orientation is common; horizontal also possible
- Connect to power supply and control circuit (PLC, alarm, pump starter)
- Proper grounding is essential
- Set up switch trip point if adjustable
- Verify with actual fluid
- Fill/empty to confirm response
- Check output indication and system response
