Transparent Level Gauge

Product Overview

A Transparent Level Gauge (also known as a Sight Glass Level Gauge) is a direct-reading level measurement device that allows operators to visually observe the liquid level inside a tank or vessel. It consists of a transparent glass or plastic tube/plate mounted externally and connected to the process, providing a simple, reliable, and real-time level indication.

How it works (simple explanation)

The gauge is connected to the tank at two points—typically the bottom and top. Liquid flows into the transparent tube and naturally rises to the same level as the liquid inside the tank (communicating vessel principle). The operator can directly see the liquid level through the transparent section.

What it measures

  • Liquid level (visual indication)
  • Suitable for clean or moderately contaminated liquids
  • Not intended for solids or highly opaque fluids

Key advantages

  • Simple and intuitive visual level indication
  • No power supply required
  • High reliability with minimal maintenance
  • Immediate detection of level changes
  • Cost-effective solution
  • Available for high-pressure and high-temperature applications (with reinforced glass)

Applications

  • Water and wastewater tanks
  • Boilers and steam drums
  • Chemical and petrochemical tanks
  • Oil and fuel storage systems
  • Pharmaceutical and food processing vessels
  • Power plants and industrial utilities

Installation

  • Mount vertically on the side of the tank
  • Connect lower and upper process connections securely
  • Ensure proper alignment to avoid stress on the glass
  • Install isolation valves for maintenance safety
  • Use protective shields in high-pressure or hazardous applications
  • Periodically inspect seals and glass condition
