Pressure Switch

Product Overview

A Pressure Switch is an electromechanical or electronic device designed to monitor system pressure and automatically open or close an electrical contact when a preset pressure threshold is reached. It is widely used for alarm, control, and safety interlock functions in industrial, commercial, and utility applications.

How it works (simple explanation)

The pressure switch senses pressure through a diaphragm, piston, or bellows. When the applied pressure reaches the set point, the sensing element moves and activates an internal switch. This action either opens or closes an electrical circuit, triggering an alarm, starting/stopping a pump, or protecting equipment.

What it measures

  • Fluid or gas pressure
  • Detects pressure above or below a preset value
  • Monitors:
    • Overpressure
    • Under pressure
    • Differential pressure (in some models)

Key advantages

  • Simple and reliable operation
  • No continuous power required (mechanical types)
  • Fast response to pressure changes
  • Easy set-point adjustment
  • Suitable for harsh industrial environments
  • Cost-effective pressure monitoring and control

Applications

  • Pump and compressor control
  • Boiler and steam systems
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • HVAC systems
  • Fire protection systems
  • Process safety shutdowns
  • Water treatment plants
  • Oil & gas and chemical industries

Installation

  • Installed directly on the pressure line, vessel, or manifold
  • Ensure correct pressure range selection
  • Mount according to manufacturer’s orientation guidelines
  • Electrical wiring must follow safety and explosion-proof standards (if applicable)

Set and test the pressure set point after installation
