Globe Control Valves

Product Overview

Globe Control Valves are widely used control valves designed to regulate, throttle, or isolate fluid flow in pipelines. They use a movable plug (disc) and a stationary ring seat arranged in a generally spherical body. By moving the plug closer to or away from the seat, the valve precisely controls the flow rate. Globe control valves are commonly used in industrial process control systems where accurate flow regulation is required.

How it works (simple explanation)

A globe control valve works by moving a plug (disc) up and down inside the valve body.

  • When the valve stem lifts the plug away from the seat, fluid flows through the valve.
  • When the plug moves closer to the seat, the flow is reduced.
  • When the plug fully contacts the seat, the flow stops completely.

The movement of the plug is typically controlled by an actuator (pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic) that receives signals from a control system to regulate flow precisely.

What it measures

Globe control valves do not measure variables directly but control process variables based on signals from measurement instruments. These typically include:

  • Flow rate
  • Pressure
  • Temperature
  • Liquid level

The valve adjusts the fluid flow to maintain the desired process condition.

Key advantages

  • Excellent throttling capability for precise flow control
  • High accuracy and stability in regulating process variables
  • Good shut-off performance
  • Suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature services
  • Wide range of sizes and materials available
  • Compatible with automated control systems

Applications

Globe control valves are used in many industrial processes, including:

  • Oil and gas processing
  • Power generation plants
  • Chemical and petrochemical industries
  • Water and wastewater treatment systems
  • Steam control systems
  • HVAC systems
  • Pharmaceutical and food processing plants

Installation

Proper installation is important for accurate control and long valve life.

General installation guidelines:

  • Install the valve in the correct flow direction indicated by the arrow on the valve body.
  • Ensure adequate upstream and downstream pipe support.
  • Mount the actuator vertically when possible.
  • Allow enough space for maintenance and actuator removal.
  • Use appropriate gaskets and flange connections to avoid leakage.
  • Ensure the control signal and power supply are correctly connected.
